The eastern part of the island of Timor was administered as part of Macao until 1896, and then as a separate Portuguese Overseas Territory until 1975 when it became part of Indonesia.
Portuguese colonial stamps issued were used until 1975 and since then Indonesian stamps have been used. Under Portuguese rule, the stamps were marked Timor.
