  1. What a wonderful journey this will be for you and your family. Fancy having all those stamps for all that time and not cataloguing them. This will be a mammoth task but exciting at the same time. You are bound to come across some real beauties and could possibly find a really rare and valuable stamp or two!
My husband has an unfortunate story about the stamps he was left by his mum. She died young and his dad was so distraught that he burnt a lot of stuff whilst he was grief stricken with his wife’s loss. Unfortunately, the penny blacks and penny reds and sheets of czech stamps both perforated and unperforated were burnt by mistake. A tragic story.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your task and look forward to hearing the story as it evolves. Good luck! Ches

    • Hi Ches

Thank you ever so much for your encouraging message, and really sorry to hear about your husband’s stamps that were burnt.

As this is going to be a mammoth task, do check back on a regular basis to view the progress.

  2. This is nice talking about your family’s stamp collection. I collected stamps and coins when I was a kid, but when I became an adult, I stuck to coin collecting. I still have my stamp collecting book. I have a blog about coin collecting if you ever want to check it out – collectuscoins. Good luck on your site!

    • Hi Kevin

Thank you ever so much for your kind input.

And I will certainly take the opportunity to visit your blog.

      Regards

  3. I didn’t know stamp collecting was so popular. In reading this though and seeing some of the stamps you’ve got, I can understand why it would be. It’s really cool that historic events are depicted on them. My favorite was the stamp in honor of the Mothers in America. It’s crazy that they were 3 cents! Imagine what people back then would think now that they’re more than 10 times that cost!

    • Hey Jessica

Thank you ever so much for your comments.

And, yes, a person can even see the inflation of value in stamps, depicted by their face values.

Then again, I personally feel that postal stamps are starting to phase out of society as people rely more and more on couriers and going “green” (the paperless age) and in our case in South Africa, a failing postal service.

Thanks again, and please feel free to visit again.

      Regards

  4. I collect stamps since I was a small boy, and even I am not putting a lot of time and work on it right now, I believe I will come back to it any time in the future. Collecting stamps is a great hoby and it allows you to learn a lot of things about other countries you have never visited and different subjects you have never learned of.
Building a website to show your collection iss agreat idea and I believe it will probably lead to more similar webs.

  6. I enjoyed stamp collecting when I was a kid. All the different people and places you would see on them made it interesting. I still have my stamp collecting folder but I haven’t looked at it in a long time. I’ll have to go through it again. I’ve been collecting coins more and have also been learning history through them.

    • Hi Kevin

Thanks ever so much for your comments, they are much appreciated.

Kindly do visit our catalogue and browse.

    • Hi Tammy
Thank you ever so much for your visit to our website.
As you may have seen within Our Collection, we have so far catalogued over 5000 stamps, ranging over 200 countries & dating from the 1800’s. I would hazard a guess, that we still have about 1 000 000 stamps to go…haha, this may take some time.
Again, thank you for your visit and I hope that you will take a stroll through our collection.
      Regards
      Carl

  9. Very interesting topic. I am glad I stumbled onto your page. I have often wondered about this hobby and now I see just how much is involved! Congrats on this challenge.

    • Hi Merry

Thank you so much for visiting our website. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Yes, this is an older hobby, however due to this, it has become a multi billion dollar industry globally, due to the rarity of certain stamps, very similar to antiques.

As for our project, this I do believe will keep us busy for many years to come, and as such there will always be more, interesting & relevant content being added all the time.

Do pop back in a month or 2, so as to see the growth of our collection.

      Kind Regards

  10. Carl, this is very impressive! I’ve learned more about stamps on this single post than I have ever known. Very well organized. I also got the chance to read about how you got started with sorting through your collection. I can tell you that the struggles you’ve been through have been very well worth it. I’ll be checking out other countries and see how they differ compared to my family’s native country, Mexico. Great job!

    • Hi Juan

Thank you ever so much for visiting our website, as well as for your kind comments.

Yes, our collection is quite vast, and we have only touched on the tip of the iceberg, there is yet so much more to follow. I believe that this will take many years yet, and as such we will be continuously adding more, thus, do return and see how our project continues to grow.

I’m glad you like the Mexico aspect of our collection, however, do feel free to browse some of the other countries (there are so many).

      Kind Regards

    • Hi Christine
