Aden is a port city in Yemen. Aden was administered by the British from 1839 – 1967 and was known as the Colony of Aden.
Aden issued its own stamps during this period and many stamps depict boats and seascapes, although as a Crown Colony of Great Britain the postage stamps also often have pictures of British monarchs. Its position made it a popular place for mail passing between countries around the Indian Ocean and Europe. Stamps inscribed Aden continued until 1965 after which they were all withdrawn.
