The Solomon Islands were a British Protectorate from 1893 – 1978. The islands are situated to the north east of the Great Barrier Reef off Australia. Approximately 1000 islands form the country. The capital is Tulagi. The country obtained independence in 1978.
The first stamps were issued in 1907, marked British Solomon Islands Protectorate. After 1913, the stamps were inscribed British Solomon Islands.
