The Republic of Guinea Bissau, known as Portuguese Guinea in its colonial days, is situated on Africa’s west coast. It is bordered by Senegal and Guinea and has a sea border on the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is Bissau. The country became an independent republic in 1973, but has been plagued by political instability since then.
The first stamps of the independent Republic of Guinea-Bissau were issued in 1974.
