Today Muscat is the capital and largest city of Oman which has sea borders with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
Muscat first used stamps of India, then Pakistan and then British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia. The first post office was opened in 1864. The only stamps of Muscat were issued in 1944 commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the ruling Al Busaid dynasty. These were overprinted British Indian stamps.
