
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is an island country situated off the southeast coast of India. The commercial capital is Colombo. The country of Ceylon became an Independent Republic in 1972 and changed its name to Sri Lanka.
It is the only country which includes details on the stamp in three languages, Sinhala, Tamil and English. The first stamps were issued after independence in 1972.
