Transvaal, formerly the South African Republic, under Boer rule, was annexed by Great Britain in 1877, restored to the Boers in 1881, again annexed in 1900 and in 1910 it became a Province of the Union of South Africa.
The first stamps of Transvaal were issued in 1870. From 1910, these stamps were superseded by the stamps of the Union of South Africa which were valid for use in the Union of South Africa until 1937.
