Austria and other European nations maintained a system of post offices in the Turkish Empire in the first half of the 20^th Century.  This was mainly due to the fact that the postal service in the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire, was very unreliable.  Most of the Austro-Hungarian post offices had closed by 1914, except for several in Albania which remained open until 1915.
