
Belize, formerly British Honduras became independent within the British Commonwealth in June 1973. It was the last Central American country to gain independence. The country lies on the eastern shore of the Yucutan Peninsula. It is bordered by Mexico to the north and west, by Guatemala to the west and south and by the Caribbean Sea in the east. Its capital is Belmopan.
After independence in 1967, first stamp issue consisted of stamps of St Kitts and Nevis overprinted Independent Anguilla.
