British Somaliland

British Somaliland was a British protectorate in the northwest of the present day Somalia.  Its capital was Berbera.  Together with Italian Somaliland it united to form the present day Somali Republic.

British Somaliland used stamps from Egypt and then from India.  From 1904, the protectorate issued its own stamps.  All stamps of British Somaliland were withdrawn from sale on 25 June 1960, just prior to the unification of Italian and British Somaliland on 1 July 1960.  This day is regarded as Independence Day in Somalia.
