Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, off the east coast of North America consisting of 18 islands. The capital is Hamilton. Its economy is based on offshore insurance and tourism. Since 1707 it has been a British Colony.
The first postage stamps were produced locally in 1848. These stamps known as Perot provisionals are extremely rare. Commemorative stamps of Bermuda were issued in 1920 marking the 300th anniversary of representative institutions. In 1949, a commemorative stamp was issued for the 100th anniversary of Perot’s provisional stamp.
