
The Nation of Brunei, The Abode of Peace is situated on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. Its capital is Bandar Seri Begawan. In 1888, Brunei became a British Protectorate and in 1984, it gained independence from the United Kingdom. The country was transformed into an industrialised country during the period from 1999 to 2008. It is regarded by Forbes as the 5th wealthiest country out of 182, based on its oil and gas fields.
The first stamps of Brunei were issued in 1895.
