
French Guiana is an overseas territory of France. It is situated at the northern end of South America, with Brazil to the east and south and Suriname to the west. It is part of the European Union, uses the Euro as currency, and is the most prosperous territory in South America. Its capital is Cayenne.
The first stamps were issued in 1886. In 1947 the last stamps were issued, and thereafter stamps of France were used. The special issues of 1921 were printed in small numbers with high value in catalogues.
