French Somali Coast, also known as French Somaliland, was a French colony in the Horn of Africa which existed from 1883 to 1967. Its capital was Djibouti.
The first stamps of Djibouti were issued in 1894. These were replaced in 1902 with stamps for the French Somali Coast. This name was only changed in 1967 when it became the French Territory of the Afars and Issas. On gaining independence from France in 1977 the country became known as the Republic of Djibouti.
