Guernsey is a Crown Dependency situated in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. It consists of the island of Guernsey as well as many smaller islands and islets. The capital is St. Peter Port. Together with Jersey, the two groups of islands form the Channel Islands. English is the official language, but French is also spoken.
The first stamps marked Guernsey were issued during the 2nd World War. The island was occupied by Germany from 1940 – 1945. The island’s postal service was organised as a separate postal administration from 1969. Since then Guernsey has issued its own stamps.
