Kedah is a state of the Federation of Malaya which was incorporated in Malaysia in 1963.
During the 2nd World War it was invaded by Japan, but after the war it returned to British rule and joined the Federation of Malaya in 1948. Thereafter all the states which joined the Federation issued their own stamps. They all had the same design, with “‘MALAYA” at the top, confirming that they were valid for the whole of Malaya. Each Sultan featured on his own stamps.
