
The Federal Republic of Nepal is a country in the Himalayas which is landlocked. It has a boundary to the north with China, and to the south with India. Its capital is Kathmandu. A parliamentary democracy was introduced in 1951, and after the Nepalese War, a republic was proclaimed in 2008 which ended the reign of the world’s last Hindu monarchy.
The first stamps of Nepal were issued in 1881. First they were issued on European made paper and were perforated. Soon afterwards they were issued imperforate and in 1886 were printed on hand made Nepalese paper. In 1956 Nepal became a member of the Universal Postal Union.
