Netherlands New Guinea refers to the Papua region of Indonesia while it was an overseas territory of the Netherlands.  Physically, it was situated in the western half of the island of New Guinea.  After years of conflict, the Netherlands relinquished control of the area to Indonesia in 1962.

From 1950 to 1962 stamps were issued inscribed NEDERLANDS NIEUW GUINEA.
