Norfolk Island is situated in the Pacific Ocean east of Brisbane in Australia and north of New Zealand. The island was administered by Australia until 1960 after which local government was established. Together with Phillip Island and Nepean Island, the three islands form The Territory of Norfolk Island. The capital is Kingston.
From 1947, the island received postal autonomy and issued its own stamps. Norfolk Island was the last Australian territory to be postally independent, but ceased to have its own postal service in 2016. However Australia Post still issues stamps inscribed “Norfolk Island, Australia”.
