
North Borneo is an area in the north of the island of Borneo which was administered by the British from 1883. It became a British Colony in 1946 until it joined Malaysia in 1963. Its capital was Jesselton.
The North Borneo Chartered Company was founded to administer this area and in 1883, issued its own stamps. The stamps were inscribed “NORTH BORNEO” and the value was written in English, Jawi and Chinese. In 1886, the stamps were inscribed ‘BRITISH NORTH BORNEO” with “POSTAGE & REVENUE” was printed on the stamps.
