Queensland is a state situated on the east coast of Australia. It was established as a penal colony in 1824, but free settlement was allowed from 1842. The state was named in honour of Queen Victoria who had signed the letters separating the colony from New South Wales. It was one of the six colonies which became founding states of Australia in 1901. In 2009 it celebrated Q150, the 150th anniversary as an independent colony and state.
Queensland issued its first stamps in 1860. All Queensland postage stamps portrayed Queen Victoria.
