Ras al Khaimah is one of the emirates that makes up the United Arab Emirates.
The country consists of two separate sections, one to the north (where Ras al Khaimah city is situated) and another further south. A few islands in the Persian Gulf are also part of the emirate.
The first Post Office opened in 1964. The emirate continued issuing its own stamps until 1972 when its stamps were superseded by those of the United Arab Emirates in 1973.
