Tokelau has been a dependant territory of New Zealand since 1949. It consists of 3 separate atolls which are situated in the southern Pacific Ocean north of Samoa and north west of the Cook Islands. The country has a population of about 1500 which is the 4th smallest for any sovereign state or dependency.
The first stamps were issued by New Zealand in 1948. All the stamps issued are inscribed TOKELAU ISLANDS
