Terengganu (or Trengganu) is a state of Malaysia. The history of Trengganu is quite complicated. In 1909, the state was handed over by Siam to Great Britain. During the 2nd World War, Japan occupied the territory and handed it back to Siam (which had been known as Thailand since 1939). After Japan was defeated, the territory once again became part of Great Britain. In 1948, Trengganu became part of the Federation of Malaya and in 1957 it became a state of the independent Malaya which was incorporated into Malaysia in 1963.
From 1965, several states issued their own stamps, of which Trengganu was one.
