Tristan da Cunha is a group of islands situated in the South Atlantic Ocean. The main island is called Tristan da Cunha. It is part of the British territory of St. Helena, Ascencion and Tristan da Cunha. It is a very inhospitable part of our earth and only has a population of about 260 people. Personnel from the weather station are the only human beings on Gough Island, one of the group of islands.
The first stamps of Tristan da Cunha were issued in 1952. These were stamps of St. Helena overprinted “TRISTAN DA CUNHA”. Thereafter the islands issued their own stamps.
