Ukraine Flag & Coat

Today a modern independent Republic, the Ukraine was a district of south western Russia which only issued stamps from 1918 to 1923 during its independence after the Russian Revolution.  These stamps were initially issued imperforate on thin paper, but later perforate on thicker paper.  The 1918 stamps were overprinted with various different overprints.  Many forgeries of these stamps are said to be in existence.  As part of Russia from 1923 – 1991, Russian stamps were used.

Since 1991, it has been an independent Republic issuing its own stamps once again.
