Today, Victoria is a state of Australia. From 1851 until 1901, it was the Colony of Victoria with its own government within the British Empire. In 1901, it became a state of the Commonwealth of Australia.
By 1850, there were 50 post offices in Victoria. Queen Victoria was the main subject of the early stamps. Stanley Gibbons identified nearly 200 different designs between 1854 and 1883. After 1901, Victoria continued to issue its own stamps. King Edward VII appeared on the 1 and 2 pound stamps. These were replaced by Australian stamps in 1913.
Some of our older stamps, especially from the 19th century, are not in good condition, but we have placed them on this page as they are from our inherited collections and have sentimental value.
