Today Shanghai is one of the most populated cities in the world with a population of about 26 million.
It is a seaport on the east coast of China which issued its own stamps from 1865 until 1893. The early stamps had the name of China in both Latin and Chinese. The denomination on the stamps was “candareens” which was the unit of currency in Imperial China during the 19th century.
