French West Africa refers to the territory in north-west Africa comprising Senegal, French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Dahomey, French Sudan, Mauritania, Niger and Upper Volta. 

Stamps were issued in the name of Afrique Occidentale Francaise from 1944 until 1959.  Subsequently all the countries became independent Republics.
