Guadeloupe is an island country situated in the Caribbean just north of the island of Dominica. It is an overseas region of France. The main islands are Basse-terre and Grande-terre. As it is part of France, it is part of the European Union and its currency is the Euro. Although the official language is French, almost everybody speaks Antillean Creole as well.
From 1894 until 1905, Guadeloupe used stamps of the French Colonies overprinted “Guadeloupe”, but from 1905 – 1947, the island had issued its own stamps, since then stamps from Metropolitan France have been used.
