Wallis and Futuna is a group of French islands in the South Pacific Ocean. They are divided into two groups of islands, namely the Wallis Islands and the Hoorn Islands (which actually include Futuna Island). The capital city is Mata-Utu and the islands only have a population of 11 900. From 1961 to 2003 the islands had the status of a French overseas territory, but this changed to a French overseas collectivity in 2003.
The first stamps used were stamps of New Caledonia overprinted for the islands. From 1920 to the present day the islands have issued their own stamps.
