The Beginning

Carl, Paige & Dylan

So this is really exciting…

As a family, we have decided to sort, catalogue and showcase my family’s stamp collection on a dedicated website created by me for this purpose.

This looks to be a huge and overwhelming project, but I am up for this, and it is going to be really interesting.

We have in excess of a 1 000 000 stamps, dated between the 1800’s and current, some used & some in mint condition, and even First Day covers too.

We are currently amateurs in respect of Philately, however I am certain that we will be come Specialists in the field in no time.

This is the beginning of many great things to come.

Follow us, as the collection takes shape & size over the weeks, months & years to follow…

And feel free to drop ideas, comments or suggestions below…

In The Beginning…

…we removed the entire Stamp Collection from storage, so that we may see what we are letting ourselves in for.

Between Albums, Catalogues, boxes and books, my estimate is that the Stamp Collection contains in excess of 1 000 000 Stamps, dating between late eighteen hundreds to current and spanning many various countries.

Well we need some way to catalogue the stamp collection, a way to file the stamps for easy access, a process to capture the stamps onto the computer, vectorise the images, build a website, load the content, market research and industry study, content creation, seems like a stroll in the park…

  1. What a wonderful journey this will be for you and your family. Fancy having all those stamps for all that time and not cataloguing them. This will be a mammoth task but exciting at the same time. You are bound to come across some real beauties and could possibly find a really rare and valuable stamp or two!
My husband has an unfortunate story about the stamps he was left by his mum. She died young and his dad was so distraught that he burnt a lot of stuff whilst he was grief stricken with his wife’s loss. Unfortunately, the penny blacks and penny reds and sheets of czech stamps both perforated and unperforated were burnt by mistake. A tragic story.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your task and look forward to hearing the story as it evolves. Good luck! Ches

    • Hi Ches

Thank you ever so much for your encouraging message, and really sorry to hear about your husband’s stamps that were burnt.

As this is going to be a mammoth task, do check back on a regular basis to view the progress.

  2. This is nice talking about your family’s stamp collection. I collected stamps and coins when I was a kid, but when I became an adult, I stuck to coin collecting. I still have my stamp collecting book. I have a blog about coin collecting if you ever want to check it out – collectuscoins. Good luck on your site!

    • Hi Kevin

Thank you ever so much for your kind input.

And I will certainly take the opportunity to visit your blog.

      Regards
